Pilates & Barre Classes

PILATES
Pilates builds core strength, improves posture, and increases flexibility and joint mobility through slow, deliberate movement performed through a full range of motion, lengthening muscles as it strengthens them. Β It also strengthens the smaller accessory and stabilizer muscles that support the larger muscle groups, helping improve overall movement efficiency and reduce injury risk.
Originally developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, a physical trainer who created the method to rehabilitate injured soldiers and dancers, Pilates' roots are in physical therapy and rehabilitative movement β it focuses on core control, alignment, and precise, controlled breathing rather than raw output.
A fantastic workout on it's own, Pilates is also an excellent addition for anyone who participates in more traditional strength training classes. Β (Even if you regularly lift weights, you may find a Pilates class to be surprisingly humbling!)
Our Pilates classes use a variety of props, including stability balls, resistance rings, bands, and light weights in place of a reformer, so clients get the same core-focused, low-impact training principles without the specialized machine.
BARRE
Barre emphasizes small, controlled movements and isometric holds that build strength and stability without high-impact strain on the joints. It also targets the smaller accessory and stabilizer muscles that support the larger muscle groups, improving balance and joint control.
Barre traces its roots to the 1950s, when German dancer Lotte Berk combined ballet-inspired movements with rehabilitative exercises she'd used to recover from a back injury, blending dance training with physical therapy principles. That rehabilitative foundation is still at the core of the format.
Our Barre classes use the ballet barre alongside light weights, resistance bands, and stability balls to target the core, glutes, and legs through low-impact, high-repetition movement β building endurance, balance, and postural strength.
