Train in the Gym Like You Move in Real Life

FREE class — registration is required.

Functional fitness is an approach to exercise that emphasizes foundational movement patterns to train the body for real-world movements and activities. It's a holistic approach that's proven to:

★ Build Strength
★ Burn Fat
★ Improve Balance and Mobility
★ Boost Cardiovascular Conditioning

This class is for ...

  • Current Chatham Works members who haven't ever tried our Team Training classes, or want to learn more about functional fitness.
  • non-CW members who want to get in shape, and/or get a feel for Chatham Works to see if it might be a fit.

Functional fitness overview:

Functional training emphasizes compound (multi-joint) exercises — often across multiple planes of motion — which mirrors how we actually move in the real world. It lets you work more muscle groups in less time than machine-based workouts, and also develops the brain-body connection. Because of the nature of the exercises, core work is built in, and there's a cardio component too.

Foundational movement patterns

What to expect:
This class includes a workout, but with more background and instruction than our regular Team Training classes. It's designed for anyone who is new to functional fitness and wants to learn what it's all about, and get more comfortable in the gym. We accommodate a wide range of strength and ability levels by incorporating progressions and regressions into every exercise.

No experience necessary:
Remember — everyone you'll see here (including our Trainers and Instructors!) was new to this at some point too.  There's no need to feel shy or intimidated.  (Note: This class is not suitable for anyone with significant movement limitations or balance issues.  Please speak with the Front Desk if you have any questions.)

What to bring:

  • Proper gym sneakers (ideally not running shoes)
  • Water bottle
  • Optional: towel and mat (we have mats available)
